Erkan Saka is an associate professor of media and journalism studies at the School of Communication at Istanbul’s Bilgi University. He teaches on Digital Journalism, New Media Cultures, and Cyber-Anthropology. He is currently the director of the M.A Program, Public Relations and Corporate Communications. He earned his BA and MA degrees at the Sociology Department of Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. He received his Ph.D. at the Anthropology Department of Rice University (Houston, USA). He has been a political blogger (Erkan’s Field Diary, since June 2004). He is a co-coordinator of a Citizen Journalism Training Programs at Bilgi Eğitim and he coordinated and presented a TV show, SosyalKafa, on social media cultures. His recent and current research topics include online information fact-checking and verification issues, digital web archiving and internet histories, ethnography of cryptocurrency circles in Turkey.
